Athena® Insecticide/Miticide from FMC is Now Registered for Use in California for Powerful Knockdown and Long Residual Control in Almonds and Walnuts

Philadelphia – FMC Corporation introduces Athena®, a new insecticide/miticide for California that provides powerful knockdown of mites, navel orangeworm, codling moth and peach twig borer in almonds and walnuts.

"The secret to the effective performance of Athena is its unique formulation," said Bob Leifker, FMC Agricultural Products Group product manager. "With its excellent crop safety and long residual, Athena works to increase crop yields. The more tree nut orchards produce, the more growers can feel better about their crop management practices."

While other insecticides sit on top of the plant tissue, the distinctive chemistry of Athena allows for direct contact, resulting in quick knockdown of adult insects and larva. Athena produces maximum translaminar activity that penetrates tough, mature plants, allowing for optimal residual protection on both sides of the leaves. The insecticide/miticide continues to protect crops through long-lasting residual control. As insects and newly hatched larva move across plant tissue, they absorb the insecticide/miticide and die. Mites on the underside of leaves are destroyed by direct contact and as they feed on plant tissue.

Athena insecticide/miticide has a low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) and low-odor formulation. Along with almonds and walnuts, Athena insecticide is available for use on strawberries, cotton, cucurbits, grapes, head lettuce, spinach, pears, potatoes and hops.
