American Soybean Association Leadership Featured on The Minute by FMC

PHILADELPHIA – April 8, 2014 – Involvement in industry associations leads to improvements at every level.  The Minute Host Jake Turner recently talked with American Soybean Association (ASA) National Board Member Eric Maupin and ASA Past Board President Steve Wellman about the 2014 Farm Bill, association membership and international marketing. The episode is available online at

Episode filming took place during the 2014 Commodity Classic in San Antonio. Policy development for ASA begins with association members and culminates at the annual meeting of voting delegates during Commodity Classic each year.

“This is the time we come together. Our farmer leaders from across the nation come and give direction through our policy to our organization as to where we are going to go in the next year,” said Maupin. And Wellman added, “Membership is the foundation of ASA, policy is the focus and leadership development is the future.”

The episode also highlights the partnership between FMC, ASA and NACHURS® for the 2013 SOY Booster Field Trial program with a goal of increasing soybean yields. A total of 128 farmers from 16 states enrolled in the program, giving them the opportunity to try Capture® LFR® insecticide and NACHURS liquid starter fertilizer on soybeans. Test plots yielded an average 2 bu/A increase with some acres seeing as high as 9 bu/A boost. There were yield increases in 75 percent of the test plots.

“It’s important that we work in those partnerships to keep agriculture moving in the right direction,” said Maupin.

The Minute by FMC features Host Jake Turner as he travels through corn and soybean country talking with experts about pest management and other important issues that affect yield. Previous episodes have highlighted topics such as sprayer calibration and breaking the yield ceiling in addition to an audiocast about tank mixing best practices.
