| Q. |
How effective is Mustang® insecticide?
|
| A. |
Research
conducted at leading universities and by FMC demonstrates that Mustang
has excellent efficacy and residual against adult rice water weevils,
chinch bugs and other labeled pests. In fact, Mustang controls a
broader range of insects than conventional and biological rice
insecticides. And it makes a terrific partner for other insecticides in
your integrated pest control program. |
| |
| Q. |
How will Mustang affect my yields?
|
| A. |
When
you control damaging insect pests, one of the primary stresses to your
crop is eliminated. Insect control, weed control and a good fertility
program ensure that you've provided the best scenario for high-quality
rice. And you don't have to worry about Mustang injuring sensitive
young rice seedlings. |

| Q. |
What is Hydro-Formulated Technology™ ?
|
| A. |
Hydro-Formulated
Technology, or HFT™, formulations are made by an innovative process
which delivers the active ingredient in submicron size. This improves
performance and product stability, so the effectiveness of Mustang is
less susceptible to variables in water hardness, temperature, pH or
tank residues. The process improves tank-mix compatibility and
eliminates the need for petroleum distillates, making Mustang less
likely to cause skin irritation. |
| |
| Q. |
What is the active ingredient?
|
| A. |
Mustang
contains zeta-cypermethrin, a highly recognized insecticide widely used
throughout the United States. Mustang is labeled for use on alfalfa,
corn, soybeans, wheat, sorghum, sugar beets and more than 60 vegetable
crops. |
| |
| Q. |
How environmentally friendly is Mustang?
|
| A. |
Rates
of application are very low, so less chemical is introduced into the
environment. What's more, when used according to directions, the active
ingredient in Mustang has low potential risk to birds, earthworms,
mammals or people. As with any insecticide, label directions,
application precautions and requirements for worker and handler
protection must be followed carefully. |
| |
| Q. |
How should I scout for rice water weevil adults
|
| A. |
Dry
seeded rice - Begin scouting fields after the permanent flood has been
established. Examine plants throughout the field and continue scouting
every three or four days. Treat when at least 60 percent of the
youngest mature leaves on the plant have adult feeding scars. For
dry-seeded rice, an application is usually timed within ten days after
permanent flood establishment. Water seeded - Begin scouting when
seedlings emerge from the flood. An application is recommended when 50
percent of the plants have adult feeding scars. In water-seeded rice,
an application usually begins when rice has emerged ½ inch above the
waterline. |
| |
| Q. |
What is the life cycle of the rice water weevil? |
| A. |
Rice
water weevils overwinter as adults in bunch grasses and in leaf litter.
The adults fly into flooded fields where they feed and the females lay
eggs in the leaf sheath that hatch in four to nine days. The larvae
initially feed on the leaf sheath before burrowing into the soil where
they feed on the roots. Pupation occurs in a watertight cocoon and
lasts five to seven days. There may be more than one generation per
season depending on the location. The adults fly to overwintering
sites. |
| |
| Q. |
How long will Mustang continue to control insects after an application?
|
| A. |
Mustang
has a longer residual than many other foliar products. This may allow
you to reduce applications of insecticide while maintaining insect
control. |
| |
| Q. |
Are there rotation restrictions?
|
| A. |
Rotational crops may be planted 30 days after the last application of Mustang. |
| |
| Q. |
How long should I wait before harvesting?
|
| A. |
Applications can be made up to 14 days of harvest. |
| |
| Q. |
Will Mustang cause skin irritation?
|
| A. |
Unlike
other insecticides, Mustang doesn't use petroleum distillates to
deliver its active ingredient. That means Mustang won't burn or speckle
sensitive crops, and it's less likely than other products on the market
to irritate your skin. |
| |
| Q. |
Is Mustang expensive?
|
| A. |
No.
In fact, Mustang typically costs less per acre than other competitive
products. Plus, you get better insect control. That makes Mustang a
truly exceptional value. |
