Mustang® gets rid of corn pests quickly, and
keeps them gone. But these benefits don't come without responsibility.
In addition to the label requirements, there are a few key management
practices to keep in mind when you use Mustang insecticide.
Time Mustang to your particular pests .
- For cutworm control, Mustang may be applied before, during or after planting.
- Make foliar applications when insect
populations reach economic thresholds. Refer to your local Extension
Pest Management Guidelines or consult with your local retailer or crop
consultant regarding field-scouting results.
- For chinch bug control, scout fields and make applications when bugs migrate from small grains or wild grasses to small corn.
Choose the right application rate.
Mustang offers a wide range of application rates, allowing you to
tailor your insecticide to your specific situation. After all, who
knows your pest problems better than you? Depending upon the insect
state, crop stage, plant/pest relationship, pest pressure and spray
conditions, you may want to increase or decrease your application rate.
Use a lower rate when:
- Pest stage is in 1st instar
- Pest receives direct contact of insecticide application
- Crop infestation is lighter
- Temperatures are lower or humidity higher
Use a higher rate when:
- Pest stage is in 3rd instar
- Pest is covered by foliage or crop Crop infestation is greater
- Temperatures are higher or humidity is low
- A soil incorporated application is being used
Apply by air or by ground equipment using
sufficient water to obtain full coverage of foliage (minimum of 2
gallons per acre by air and 10 gallons per acre by ground).
Observe maximum limits.
Do not apply more than 0.20 pounds of active ingredient per acre
per season. Include at-plant plus foliar applications in this total.
Follow drift management guidelines.
Careful drift management is essential. Correct pressure settings,
proper nozzle size and alignment, and attention to wind speeds will
ensure on-target application. Follow Spray Drift Management and General
Information guidelines on the label.
If you follow these simple guidelines, you
will be using Mustang appropriately and effectively. And you'll be able
to keep using Mustang as a valuable tool for protecting your fresh
market and processing vegetable crops for years to come.
