Capture® insecticide is proven effective for
residual mite control, as well as a broad spectrum of other corn pests
including Southwestern and European corn borer, Western bean cutworm,
adult corn rootworm beetles and corn earworm. The result? Higher
potential yields for you.
Those benefits don't come without responsibility,
though. In addition to the label requirements, there are three points
you should be sure to keep in mind when using Capture:
-
Make sure you have clean leaves and proper coverage.
Dirty or dusty leaves can reduce effectiveness, so application after
rain or overhead irrigation is best. Additionally, we recommend using a
minimum of two gallons of carrier per acre for complete coverage.
-
For corn insects not including mites, the recommended rate is 2.56 ounces per acre, per application.
The first application should be timed to the first major
pest that reaches threshold levels. The Capture multi-pest position is
superior to the competition, offering better control and residual than
using two applications of Warrior® at the 3.2 oz/a rate.
-
For mite control, apply Capture at 5.12 to 6.40 ounces per acre.
Lower use rates will allow mite escapes and speed up the selective process for resistant mites.
Capture applications should not follow another liquid pyrethroid. The
ability of Capture to be applied without flaring mites is unique— use
of additional pyrethroid products will only irritate and flare mite
populations.
You may, however, use Pounce® 1.5 G insecticide to control 1st
generation European corn borer. It will not interfere with the ability
of Capture to control mites. And since the unique Pounce granule
concentrates product in the whorl where borers hide, you'll get more
complete control prior to normal mite infestation timing.
Capture should be used early— mite colonies are small and confined to
the lower third of the leaves. Treatments to high infestations will
result in a higher number of escapes. When you have to make a late
treatment or when mite populations are high, FMC recommends adding one
pint of dimethoate or disulfoton.
Split-shot applications of Capture should always occur within a 14-day
window. Second applications are quite effective in treating a high
percentage of resistant mites, but after 14 days, they are more likely
to survive. If you have to make an early application, we recommend an
alternative chemistry, such as Furadan® 4F insecticide-nematicide plus
disulfoton or Comite® II.
If you follow these simple guidelines, you'll be
using Capture appropriately and effectively. And you'll be able to keep
using Capture as a valuable tool for protecting your corn for years to
come.
