Goosegrass
Common: Goosegrass (also known as Silver Crabgrass, wiregrass, bullgrass)
Scientific: Eleusine indica
Affected Crops: Corn, cotton, rice, soybeans, tobacco.
Identification: The
whitish-translucent leaf sheath of the seedling has broad margins.
Leaves are distinctly flattened or folded, and smooth. Stems are also
flattened, whitish-green and almost parallel to ground on young plants.
Geographical Distribution: These
plants are found from Massachussets to South Dakota and Kansas, and
south to Florida and Texas. Also found along the West Coast. More of a
problem in warmer parts of the United States.
