The Minute by FMC Features Overlap System

3/23/2015

PHILADELPHIA – March 23, 2015 – Resistant weed challenges mean changing the way we’ve been doing things. University of Tennessee Extension Weed Specialist Larry Steckel talks with The Minute Host Jake Turner about the Overlap System, a method for combating troublesome weeds that threaten yield. The episode is online at www.news.FMCMinute.com.

“Ask any grower what his biggest challenge is in the field and he’ll probably say resistant weeds,” said Turner in the episode.

The conversation between Turner and Steckel further explores the Overlap System and its benefits in weed resistance management. In addition to glyphosate-resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth and waterhemp, Steckel discusses weed germination timelines and the use of multiple modes of action.

“It really boils down to basically one thing – most farmers, over time, have gone to basically one tactic to try and manage these weeds and the weeds adapted to it,” said Steckel. “We’ve got to do something different.”

The Minute by FMC features Host Jake Turner as he travels through corn and soybean country talking with experts about pest management and other important issues that affect yield. Previous episodes have highlighted topics such as liquid fertilizer-ready insecticides, insect and weed identification, and breaking the yield ceiling. Each time registered viewers watch an episode, they are entered to win one of five $100 Visa® gift cards.
