FMC Shares the Power of Agriculture with Brock Seminar Attendees and Future Ag Leaders

7/8/2013

PHILADELPHIA – July 8, 2013 – FMC Agricultural Products recently took a break from the ordinary to speak with growers about the lessons and legacy of agronomist legend and Nobel Prize winner Dr. Norman Borlaug during a presentation at the Brock Associates “Decisions 2013 Summer Seminar” series.

The presentation, “A Cereal Thriller: The Story of an American Hero,” presented by Noel Vietmeyer, focused on Dr. Borlaug’s lifelong mission to improve crop productivity and promote food security around the world. Vietmeyer, author of “Our Daily Bread – the Essential Norman Borlaug,” explored how sharing basic irrigation, fertilization and plant breeding techniques have helped to save the lives of more than 1 billion people from starvation. FMC sponsored presentations at a series of events in Lafayette, Ind.; Bloomington, Ill.; Grand Island, Neb.; Mankato, Minn.; and Greenville, N.C.

“During the seminar, Noel gave a stirring talk about the achievements of Borlaug and his impact on world agriculture and food production,” said David Wheeler, FMC Agricultural Products North America business solutions manager. “Borlaug’s achievements remind us that food security is a challenge for every generation. Everyone, young people especially, should read this book.”

In order to spread awareness about Borlaug’s inspirational story, FMC provided each attendee with a free copy of Vietmeyer’s book. Attendees can also work through their FMC Star Retailer to get up to 10 books donated to their local FFA or 4-H programs, courtesy of FMC.

To build upon the “American Hero” theme, FMC representatives spoke with attendees about Hero® insecticide.  Continuing its commitment to invest in farming’s future, FMC also shared information about the “Stand and Be Heard Anthem Singing Contest,” a scholarship contest. One student will receive a trip to Nashville for a professional recording session and national TV appearance, in addition to a $10,000 college scholarship.
